Our Pool & Backyard Design Process
We plan the whole backyard, not just the pool, so everything fits your home and works together. Here is what to expect.
Step 1
Visit and site review
We meet you in your backyard and look at the layout of your property. We find the best spot for the pool based on sun, privacy and your views, and check the slope of the yard to plan for drainage and any retaining walls. Then we mark the pool and patio right on the lawn, so you can see exactly where everything will go.
Step 2
A plan for the whole backyard
With the layout and slope mapped out, we design your whole outdoor space, not just the pool, and have a 3D rendering made so you can see it before anything is built. The plan covers:
- Safety fencing that meets your town's code and fits the look of your home
- The pool surround and patio, with room to lounge, dine and entertain
- Trees, shrubs and plants that do well by a pool and add privacy
- Fixing, seeding or sodding the lawn once the heavy equipment leaves
Step 3
Pick your materials
Once the plan is set, we walk you through choosing everything, then order it and have it delivered to your home ready for the build. You choose:
- Pavers, natural stone or decking
- Boulders and stone for features like a waterfall
- Fencing style and color
- Plants and outdoor lighting
Step 4
We manage the build
You won't have to juggle contractors. From the first day of digging to setting the pool, building the patio and planting, we're your one point of contact. We oversee every contractor on the job, handle the schedule and check the work on site so it's done right.

Do you install the pool itself?
No. We design the complete pool area and build the paver surround, and we can connect you with a pool company. We stay your one point of contact and oversee the contractors so the whole process goes smoothly from plan to finished backyard.
Why design the pool area before I buy a pool?
Because some people buy a pool first and then find out the yard needs things they did not plan for, like required fencing or a layout that leaves no room for a patio. A plan up front shows you where the pool goes, what size fits and what the whole project needs before you spend anything on the pool. We take measurements and put together a plan with a 3D rendering so you can see it first.
What else does a pool project need besides the pool?
Usually a patio or deck around it, and in most towns a fence or barrier around the pool. The rules depend on your town, so it is much better to know before you buy. We help you plan for all of it up front.
What does a pool surround include?
Pavers laid on a properly prepared base, with room to lounge, dine and entertain around the water. We build it once the pool is in.
